My interests are all over the place, ranging from mathematics to russian iterature or geopolitics, but I recently noticed a pattern: many have the "geo" prefix. Let's talk about a few of those.
Geography
I find it fascinating to know what is where, how it evolved over time, and why. As a consequence, I love maps, and buy way more than I need - the IGN surely appreciates that.
Le dessous des Cartes, Bienvenue en Géozarbie are among my favourite TV shows, and The Ultimate Book of Geography Oddities a book I cannot recommend enough.
GeoGuessr
Put a lot of geography, an ounce of intuition and a bit of competition, stir and you get one of the best games ever: GeoGuessr.
The idea is awesomely simple: you're sent in Google Street View somewhere in the world, and your goal is to guess where you are. Depending on the mode, you might be playing against time or someone else, and be allowed to move around freely and look wherever you want, or be immobile but allowed to look and zoom in any direction, or be fully static.
The vastness of the world and the variety of game modes make GeoGuessr close to an "infinite game", and playing it is great. You can follow my mediocre journey here.
Another thing is that watching really strong players compete (YouTube) is almost better than playing. I cannot start to imagine how much work they put into this, and I am in awe with their mastery of the game.
