Status Report - Week 41 2026
Real life
As usual, this was a quiet week, with a nice highlight though: Lyla has been accepted to a one-day event in the coming holidays, Rev'Elles les sciences. It is a seminar at the prestigious ENS Paris-Saclay organized to promote science studies to school girls. I think it will be a great experience for Lyla, and it also means we'll get to spend a few vacation days in Paris, which is always nice.
I continued reading A certain idea of France and making progress on Maths MP-MP* - Tout-en-un. I'm sure I'll be done with the latter by next week; the former will need a bit more time :-)
I had a good running week, with 33.38 km, and a super light but effective one on GeoGuessr: I only played one duel (that I won), and finished high enough in my division to be promoted to Master III \o/
Open source
I did not do any work on SourceHut nor sr.ht-integration-testing, though I'm happy to see that the latter's daily test runner has been succeeding every day since October 1st. I hope it's not just luck, but rather that the stability fixes I made last month are paying off.
I have refreshed my GCC development environment, which took me much longer than
expected due to bad interactions between building a debuggable compiler (e.g.
with -O0 -g) and using the in-tree libsanitizer (that I learnt does not fully
work when built with -O0).
Once this was behind me, I could finally do some work and submit two patches:
- A fix for an issue that could happen when merging exception specifiers (c++/118388)
- A fix to properly manage access to members of classes containing anonymous structs and defined within expressions (c++/120311)
Those two patches reminded me of my usual experience working on the C++ front-end, i.e. the shorter the fix, the longer you have spent debugging and coming up with the right fix, but also that I really like debugging stuff :-)
