Status Report - Week 40 2026
Real life
This has been a weird week, one of those where you feel that you did a lot, but it's just an illusion :-)
The only noticeable thing is that I finally signed Lyla up for her driving lessons. There's a 8 to 12 week waiting list to have an instructor who can teach in English, which actually lines up pretty well with her school constraints, so it's cool - one less thing to do!
I continued reading A certain idea of France and making progress on Maths MP-MP* - Tout-en-un. I'm almost done with the latter, and am looking forward to it because I have another maths book lined up ;-)
I had a bit of pain in the calf so ran a little less - 25.76 km, and had a light week at GeoGuessr, with 6 wins out of 12 duels.
Open source
It's the first non-holiday week in a long time where I did not submit any patch to SourceHut.
I still worked quite a bit on the ecosystem, spending quite some time on reducing test flakiness in sr.ht-integration-testing. Most of the fixes were in the realm of "somehow get notified that every action you depend on is done before moving on"; it's actually always been possible thanks to webhooks, and I think we're in a better place now. For the curious, here's a list of tickets I implemented for this: #84, #90, #91, #92, #95 and #97.
I also added a test to validate the behaviour of various services in the standard "patch application flow", and added an option to make it easier to investigate webhook issues.
I also worked a bit on aerc, fixing a race condition in a recent maildir patch I merged, and finally fixed the IRC bot workaround to advertise patches merged by Proton Mail users (e.g. yours truly).
Finally, I was super excited by the announcement that the EDG C++ compiler front-end has been open-sourced, and setup my development environment.
