Status Report - Week 37 2026

Real life

It was a very quiet week, with a bit of maths, a lot of reading and of GeoGuessr, and barely any coding.

I finished The best and the brightest, that was very long (700+ pages) but also super interesting. My quick summary is that the Vietnam War went so bad because the US had nothing to do there, the only people who wanted to fight communism in Vietnam were... the Americans, and everybody in the chain of command was lying so that their N+1 heard what they wanted to hear. Very sad for all the people who died in this war.

I also read Stanislas, la loi du silence, an investigation about a prestigious private school in France that has been crippled with pedophilia affairs for years, and seems to be extremely well protected by the Church and higher ups in the French state. This book made me very angry, especially knowing that my French taxes finance 75% of this private and very religious school! I thought we had separation of state and church since 1905 in France...

I then started reading De l'autre côté du tableau noir, about the challenges of teaching mathematics, and it is pretty good so far. Finally, I continue making steady progress on Maths MP-MP* - Tout-en-un.

I had a good week of running, with 36.09 km, and a pretty intense week at GeoGuessr, with 108 (!) duels played (50 won).

Open source

It was a very quiet week open-source wise, with no SourceHut patch submitted (!!)

I did however review a bunch of hut patches, and made small improvements to reduce test flakiness in sr.ht-integration-testing.
