Status Report - Week 36 2026

Real life

It was (finally?) la rentrée for Lyla and Anton who obviously disagree with the principle, but are happy to meet their friends again, and seem to have good teachers. It also means that we are back to our normal routine, a good thing for everybody.

Something that kept me very busy this week was the GeoGuessr World Championship. I have not watched 100% of the live stream but surely in the high 90s. As usual, I was just flabbergasted by the skills and knowledge of all the players, and the final had more action, suspense and "dramatic situations" than your top summer blockbuster. I have a knack for watching people at the peak of mastery of their domain, and was really not disappointed here.

My stack of books to read next is dangerously growing, and it's high time that I finish the excellent (but long) The best and the brightest - it should be done early next week. In parallel, I continue making progress on Maths MP-MP* - Tout-en-un. The main reason I'm slow is that I actually do a bunch of the exercises without jumping at the correction after a few minutes.

Finally, I had a good week of running, with 32.89 km, and an OK one at GeoGuessr, with 18 duels won out of 38.

Open source

I'll blame the GeoGuessr World Championship for my very limited bandwidth to do work this week, but I still did a few things in the SourceHut ecosystem.

Someone recently sent a patch to fix an issue I introduced a few weeks back, so I prepared a test to be merged into sr.ht-integration-testing once that patch is integrated. I also sent a patch to fix a minor issue I introduced in another recent change of mine.

I also announced the August release of sr.ht-integration-testing and did some work to improve the tracking of flaky tests, and attempted to unflake mail related ones.

Finally, I submitted a fix for a crash in aerc. It turns out there was already a weeks old fix sent to the mailing list, but not integrated yet...
