Status Report - Week 4 2026

Jan 28, 2026

Real life

This week's been pretty quiet, with a bit more action on the weekend: we had the dog (Fifi) and cat (Chatouille) of friends home. They are very nice, but also like to remind us that they exist at 4 AM... so we were happy to have them, and not sad when they left :-D

I have finished reading the excellent Guerres oubliées, and started Myth of self-esteem. The jury is still out about whether I should continue or just stop The Silmarillion; I generally don't like dropping books, but this one is definitely not an easy read!

I continue to be pretty consistent in terms of running, with 25.91 km, and thanks to Fifi, add to this 11.93 km of walking.

My GeoGuessr week was mediocre, with 7 wins out of 20 "counting games" (19 out of 42 overall), enough to stay in the Gold I division. It's not clear to me whether I'm actually making progress at this game, but I like it so I'll just keep on playing.

My patch to add a GraphQL API to SourceHut's hub.sr.ht service started a very good discussion about IDs, and Drew introduced the notion of ResourceID. I helped use it in lists and trackers, and submitted a new version of the GraphQL API for hub.sr.ht.

I spent a bit of time on aerc, mostly reviewing Robin's big patch series to introduce a client side cache. Testing it highlighted a minor bug in one of the logs I added some time ago, fixed by this patch.
